What is your role at Futureproof?
As the Founder and Managing Director, I juggle a multitude of roles, most of which involve steering our small team of sustainability superstars towards delivering win-win solutions for our clients. My days are spent devising strategies, overseeing projects and ensuring our vision of a more sustainable, prosperous future remains intact. I try to keep the wheels turning, the ideas flowing and the coffee hot.
What shaped your interest in sustainability?
It probably started on two very formative trips up to Exmouth and Ningaloo Reef at the end of primary school. It was such an incredible place for a kid to be able to experience all the natural wonders Western Australia has to offer. Patting sharks under bombies, surfing and exploring the bush were about as good as it got for a 12-year-old. From a corporate perspective, I was lucky enough to spend several years at Unilever under the leadership of Paul Polman. Paul was really one of the first big corporate leaders to bring sustainability mainstream and I just really bought into that as a way of doing business.
Who do you admire for their sustainability leadership?
Yvon Chouinard from Patagonia, despite being a bit of a cliché, has always been an inspiration. His ambition and leadership to try something new and explore ways of driving impact has been hugely motivating. From their introduction of organic cotton, repairing of gear and their fearlessness in challenging the status quo through creative campaigns has made them unique. But also their honesty in recognising limitations and mistakes sets them apart in an increasingly greenwashed world.
